Part of assisting couples plan their wedding includes doing site visits to their venue. I typically like to walk through their day from ceremony to cocktail hour to the reception and figure out where and how each will occur within their venue (or venues!). Site visits are VERY important (even if you don't have a planner/designer I highly recommend walking through a site yourself as if you were a guest at your wedding and try to do it during the season that your wedding will be taking place) and they help sometimes bring logistical issues to the surface you may not have thought about during all the excitement of planning. Logistical stuff such as where will your guests go to the bathroom at your outdoor wedding in the middle of nowhere or how will grandma get to the ceremony site that is a 15 minute walk through a rough field?
This past Sunday I had a site visit for one of my 2016 couples at the Wiawaka Holiday House, a historic site and retreat for women, in Lake George, NY. Check out the history of this place - truly inspiring and meaningful place for women. This venue is gorgeous and sits right on the lake. The couple choose the venue because they wanted to create a wedding weekend for their friends and family and Wiawaka offers not only beautiful lakefront grounds but also a victorian house, cottages, and a lodge that will accommodate up to 54 of their guests for the whole weekend! I'm so excited to plan and design the spaces for their fall wedding here. If the weather is like it was during our site visit it is going to be perfect!
