This shoot was inspired by a little vintage book; a handbook for girl scouts from the 1920s. Photographer Laura Andrea Harris, florist Flower Scout, and I then sat down and brainstormed what a wedding inspired by girl scouts might look like. We each pulled in additional vendors to round out our team and make the inspiration come to life including stylist Alyssa Hardy, hair and make up artists from Make Me Fabulous, rentals from North Country Vintage Rentals, and mobile caterer Classic Crust. Graphic Designer Emily Jahn created the invitation suite using a vintage postcard I found with two bears I found hilarious. We found the perfect venue through the Kirk Estate, whose rich history is felt in all the photographs.
For the shoot, I really wanted to showcase what an upstate New York backyard wedding could look like with all NYS vendors. Field guide booklets and flasks were bought from local retailer Fort Orange General Store as vow booklets and groomsmen gifts. All the bar items featured NYS spirits, beer, and cider with my favorites Nine Pin Cider, Utica Club beer, and Hudson Whiskey. The men's attire was sourced from downtown Troy retailer Enigma Co. and neckties from Baconwear.
I created the hand painted wood arrows with paper feathers which I suspended in the lush arbor. I collected old tennis rackets to create a backdrop to the table setting and old suitcases which I paired with my grandfather's quiver of arrows. Amongst the tablescape you'll see topographic inspired napkins I hand painted along with a macrame table runner my mother (the expert macramer) made. I sewed both silk sashes for the bridesmaids and fluffy geometric print pillows for the couple's cozy tent fort. If that wasn't enough, I baked the two tier carrot cake. My mom, who gifted me with the same talent for baking, helped me out by making a plum galette and strawberry peach iron skillet pie! After styling for hours in the hot sun creating this shoot, Flower Scout and I ate forkfuls of this pie straight from the skillet and it tasted like the best thing to cross my lips.
We are all so proud to have the shoot featured on Green Wedding Shoes.
